Difficult work is no challenge for our expert upholsterers

Cover It Upholstery recently recovered a Norman & Quaine sofa and a classic 3-pc Club lounge suite. Both jobs required a high level of expertise as both these type of jobs have issues that make them difficult to recover.

We also replaced the seat foam in the Norman & Quaine sofa, using a mix of different densities of Dunlop Enduro foam and memory foam.

Cover It Upholstery Sydney is proud to show impressive work on two challenging pieces—both the Norman & Quaine sofa and the classic 3-piece Club lounge suite. Each of these items present unique challenges when it comes to reupholstering, requiring a high level of skill and expertise.

Here’s why these jobs are particularly difficult:

Norman & Quaine Sofa:

1.     High-Quality Craftsmanship: Norman & Quaine furniture is known for its bespoke, high-end design and materials. Reupholstering such a piece means preserving the integrity of the craftsmanship while upgrading or changing the fabric. It's essential to match the existing quality and style without compromising its aesthetic appeal or value.

2.     Detailed Workmanship: These sofas often have intricate stitching, tufting, or structural design features that require precision. Ensuring that every detail matches the original design or improves upon it is key to preserving the piece's character.

3.     Structural Considerations: The frame and springs might require repair or restoration, especially in older pieces. This can complicate the job, as it’s not just about the fabric, but also ensuring the structure is sound for continued comfort and durability.

Classic 3-Piece Club Lounge Suite:

1.     Design Complexity: Classic club lounge suites are often deep-set with generous cushions and plush upholstery, which require a different technique for recovering. The cushion structure, padding, and firmness must be carefully restored or enhanced, ensuring it doesn’t lose its original comfort.

2.     Leather or Heavy Upholstery: Classic lounges often feature leather or other premium materials that are tricky to work with. Leather, in particular, can be difficult to sew and requires specialized tools and care to avoid damaging the material. The suite may also have detailing such as piping or button tufting, which requires careful attention to maintain the piece’s elegance.

3.     Historical Preservation: When dealing with a classic piece, there’s often an element of historical preservation involved. Recovering this type of lounge suite means balancing modern materials and aesthetics with the integrity of the original design.

For both jobs, the need for precision and a thorough understanding of the furniture’s original structure and design features would certainly call for an expert upholsterer—someone who can tackle both the visual and functional aspects of these pieces while maintaining their heritage.
